Media Notes 1 – Renconciliation & Accessibility

Some of the more fun items are not being widely shared yet. Can’t have all your treats at once!

Reconciliation Action Plan

Congratulations on your event and launch of your plan last week, but is it going to change anything?

  1. How many indigenous residents are currently at Ainslie Village?
  2. How many in the L2Y (last two years)?
  3. How many did you say weren’t allowed to cook outside?
  4. How many have you evicted in the L2y?
  5. What reason for those evictions?
  6. How many have you evicted in the last month?
  7. When you evicted Emma T, a female member of our First Nations at 3 pm on Friday 16th of June two weeks ago, did you find her someplace to go? [Argyle Housing Staff said she would have a place at Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health and Community Services – except they don’t do accommodation]
  8. Did they actually have space, and would they take her?
  9. Do you know where she actually had to sleep?
  10. Can you tell us why you make a habit of evicting residents on Friday afternoons?
  11. When OneLink is overloaded, and not available to find accommodation for people until Monday?
  12. How did your reconciliation plan released less than a fortnight later influence your decision?
  13. What reparations do you think are appropriate?

Neglect + Wrongful Deaths

Over the last two years at Ainslie Village…

  1. Can you tell us the number of deaths?
  2. deaths due to Covid
  3. Deaths due to Drug overdoses
  4. Deaths due to Drug opiate overdoses
  5. deaths due to neglect
  6. What have you done to mitigate these deaths?

Stolen Resident Furniture + Belongings

  1. On Thursday 29th at approximately 3 pm, after doing path markups (see next section), why did you send Mark out to take away all the outdoor furniture & disability equipment from just one block in the village?
  2. Why did this block happen to be the one where the resident made the video?
  3. Was there any notice of this given to any resident of this impending furniture removal?
  4. Why have staff since denied that they gave this instruction, or that it was done?
  5. Who else has keys to the electric cart & the fenced enclosure where everything has been dumped?
  6. Can we have your home address so we can take away your furniture?
  7. We are Unhoused, not Unpeopled. Is it OK to steal from us?
  8. Your website says you not only value responsibility and accountability, but your staff exemplify them. What actions are you going to take compensate residents and live up to those claims?

Accessibility, Disability & Ableism

Over the last two years at Ainslie Village…

  1. Can you outline any accessibility improvements?
  2. Any decline?
  3. Any future plans?
  4. Do you care that you are breaking the law?

Inaccessible pathways

  1. Why were the broken and raised footpaths marked up more than two years ago, but no action was taken?
  2. Why did you let these mark-ups allowed to fade with weather and time?
  3. How much money did you spend on that survey & mark-up?
  4. Why when residents repeatedly asked for improvements were they repeatedly deflected with the line “We need to get professional consultants in to assess”?
  5. Did you only take any action after a resident released a video on 26th of June 2023?
  6. Thank you for taking *some* action, and having a builder look over and measure Drew’s Walker-Way on the 29th of June. What specialisation or expertise does the builder have in accessibility?
  7. Why did the builder not consult Drew, who was in his room, 10 metres away?
  8. Why did you later send a fully able resident around the village to Mark Up the paths?
  9. Nothing against Mark personally, or him doing the Mark-Ups (boom-tish), but what makes him a professional consultant?
  10. What professional expertise or lived experience does he have with disability?
  11. Do you think he is qualified to do an expert assessment?
  12. Do you think it constitutes ableism?
  13. Or did you have him do it so you could claim action?
  14. How does his experience driving the electric garbage collection cart help?
  15. Do you think it ironic that this same resident habitually parks the electric garbage collection cart in the middle of the path (as opposed to the side, or parking it on the grass), forcing residents with walkers and canes off the path, onto the grass?

Nothing about us Without us.

Disability Parking

Thank you for finally getting staff without disability permits to start not parking in the one accessible disability space.

  1. Did Mark or anyone else assess the disability parking situation?
  2. Why is the curb cut so poorly placed?
  3. Why do other staff cars routinely block foot & walker access to the only curb-cut without going onto the road?
  4. Why is the footpath so narrow there
  5. Why is the only other disabled space at the bottom of sixteen steps?
  6. There are some more issues, and a more expert resident with lived experience of disability ([Waves “Hi” ]) did some markups. What issues do you see?
  7. What do you think of the extra markups?
  8. Do you think this is vandalism or effective mark-ups delineating a problem?
  9. Do you know Drew’s expertise in this field?
  10. His employment history with not just Architects for eight plus years, but as a consultant to Sydney design firms, including other architects, urban planners, and landscape architects?
  11. Did you know he was also married to an Architect, and knows some in the ACT, though more in Sydney and beyond, and has a good working knowledge of design and usability non-compliance?
  12. He also has direct experience of working on the roads before University as a labourer, specifically on curbs for a lot of it! Does that experience and the fact he used professional mark-up paint mean it is expert mark-up and not vandalism?
  13. And finally, do you think curb-cuts only benefit disabled people?

Want More?

For access to more probing questions, contact Drew or leave a comment below!

If you have a particular area of interest, we probably can Accommodate (boom tish again) that too!

Do you want video of cockroaches swimming in the sink, or peacefully occupying the kitchens or new microwave screens?

Wonder why staff took no action after looking horrified by the video? Me too.

It might take a while to dig them out, but we’ve got you covered!

Not in cockroaches like when they dive bomb us, not if you stay outside anyhow!
